Boost Business with Text Message Marketing

How effective is your business at connecting with consumers while they’re on the go? Among the many mobile marketing techniques available to consider it text messaging. Sending marketing messages via text isn’t guaranteed to produce sales results, however by developing messaging that connects with the end-user, your revenues should increase.

Here are five tips to consider when developing marketing messages to release via text:

  1. Develop Focused Messaging– Your texts should be short, to the point and focused. With this messaging format, you don’t have the luxury of adding ‘fluff’ language. Consider your target market when developing messaging and speak directly to them. Your texts should simply include what your offer is and how to take advantage of it.
  2. Avoid Hype– Consumers despise SPAM messages and will delete them without second thought, regardless of the delivery method; email or text. Offers that are ‘amazing’ in nature, ‘or for a limited time only’, will likely get deleted. It is perfectly acceptable to include things such as ‘10% off sandals on July 30th’ or ‘additional 10% off to the first 1000 customers on a certain day’. Avoid hype, industry slang and don’t include abbreviations when creating text message marketing.
  3. Offer Immediate Value– Text messages should not contain discounts or promotions that are too far in the future, as they will be easily forgotten and remain unused. Text messaging is considered to be an instantaneous medium. Therefore, offers should be in real-time. Your goal should be for the consumer to take action today, not weeks from now.
  4. State Who you Are– Text messages that don’t identify who the message came from will likely be deleted. Most consumers are trained to avoid calls from unfamiliar numbers; unfamiliar text messages will get a similar reaction. Identify yourself and/or your brand in all of your text messages.
  5. Offer Exclusivity– Customers love loyalty programs! Why? Simply put, they make consumers feel special. Text messages should offer unique discounts and promotions; something not offered to the general public or something they could already gain from your website or by visiting your physical location.

Each of the above tips will help improve your text messaging campaign’s outcome. Within each text, include a call to action. What are you asking the reader of the text to do? Be clear in how the individual can take advantage of the offer. Is there a specific code that they must use? A coupon that they need to print?

With each campaign, track results using some form of analytics. Repeat the programs that are working and tweak those that are not. Developing the right messaging will take time. Be patient, try and try again, and within no time, you will have a text message marketing campaign yielding results for your business.
